Viz’s Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha to begin simultaneous release

Image
Viz’s Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha to begin simultaneous release Viz Media will at last synchronize the content on its digital anthology Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha with Japanese releases, beginning with the Jan. 21 issue. Fans had long been frustrated that the North American edition lagged behind its Japanese counterpart by as much as two weeks, and featured fewer series. “North American fans have been waiting for a long time for real-time publishing to synchronize with Japan, and it’s about to happen in Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha,” Alvin Lu, Viz Media’s executive vice president of publishing, said in a statement. “A robust Viz Manga digital infrastructure, combined with our close relationship with Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan allows us to close the gap in release schedules.” Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha will feature new installments of Bleach,Cross Manage, Naruto, Nisekoi, One Piece and Toriko on the same day as their general release in Japan. Monthly titles like Blue Exorcist, Rurouni Kenshin:

Digital Manga: An Interview with the Editor of Weekly Shonen Jump

Image
I have to admit. Several years ago, my kids and I used to go to any site that had up-to-date translated Bleach  manga. Tito Kube did not get a dime; I am a horrible person. Ok. I feel better now with that confession. I’m also feeling great that there’s no reason to look at random internet manga anymore. Weekly Shonen Jump  is digital and released the same day as Japan. Legally getting your manga fix could never be easier. To be even more honest, I stopped reading internet manga, less because of my conscience, and more because I hate reading on my computer. It was awkward. My kids and I would wait for the bound, book versions to buy or check out from our library instead. That’s why I wasn’t sure I would enjoy reading the digital version of  Shonen Jump , but I shouldn’t have been worried. The site is easy to navigate, the art is clear, and you can choose which layout suits you best to view the pages. If you have a tablet, I’m sure it’s even more convenient. I was given promoti

International Comics Festival – Angoulème

Image
Started in 1974, the festival of the 9th art is now in its 40th edition. This is currently held for 4 days (31st – 3rd February 2013) at the usual town called Angoulème, France, which is south-west of Paris and somewhere between Poitiers and Bordeaux. Every year, cartoonists not only come to celebrate the art, but also to exhibit their skills and exchange ideas with each other. Awards are also given to some of them, for their contributions, for the most promising, for the youth, for the alternative comics, etc. Of course, the festival will have invited guests such as Japanese Leiji Matsumoto ( Capitan Albator and Galaxy Express 999), Korean artists with their K-comics such as this: Various exhibits from many cartoonists wil be displayed, including Mickey And Donald. LA BOÎTE À GAND : BRECHT EVENS ET SES COMPAGNONS DE ROUTE ( an alternative comics ) LES ARCANES D’ANDREAS My all time favorite is this one : Astérix et Obélix This year, by popular demand, they will also conduct a concert

Anime vs. Manga: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Image
As many of you know, a lot of popular anime series (and not-so-popular ones as well) are based on a manga that came before it (and, more rarely, vice versa). While in some cases this can result in a very close adaptation, almost frame-by-frame, panel-by-panel, it’s not uncommon for one to differ from another. In turn, sometimes those differences are as simple as a few throwaway “filler” arcs (usually used when the anime has to waste time while waiting for the manga to “catch up” as it were), but in others the entire backstory or narrative is altered in one medium or the other. And so the idea for a new anime feature article series is born; comparing corresponding anime and manga (and, potentially, their other spinoffs), noting their major narrative and tone differences, and weighting in on which (if either) works better. We’ll start off with an undisputed classic among anime movies and its slightly lesser-known manga version: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The Plot(s) Both mov

Interesting Manga : Battle Angel Alita

Image
Fallen Angel Battle Angel Alita (or Gunnm as it’s called in Japanese) is set in a dystopian future Earth where cybernetics have become a way of life. The story begins in the Scrapyard, a grimy and dark cyberpunk city built on the castoffs of Tiphares, a mysterious and aloof floating city that stands apart from the Scrapyard’s denizens. One day, a doctor named Ido discovers something amazing in the junkyard; the remains of a cyborg girl with a fully functioning brain. He finds she has no memory of her past life, so he names her Alita (Gally in the original Japanese) and reconstructs her in the hopes of creating a pure and unsullied daughter. But it seems fate has other things in mind; one day, Alita instinctively uses panzer kunst, an extremely powerful martial art for cyborgs. Hoping to unlock her own memories and learn more about herself, Alita throws herself into battle and becomes a Hunter Warrior, one of the elite bounty hunters of the Scrapyard.
